An exhibition for the National Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month is being showcased until October 15 in the Charlotte and Richard McNeel Gallery in Giles Hall.
Every year since 2020, a group of undergraduate researchers in the School of Architecture work together under the guidance of School of Architecture Associate Professor Silvina Lopez Barrera to create an exhibition. This yearβs exhibition focuses on materiality in modern and contemporary LatinX and Latin American architecture.
βThe exhibition concentrates on material strategies architects use to balance environmental concerns with their architectural visions,β said Arturo Hernandez, vice president of the organization. βThe goal of this exhibition is to contribute to ongoing discussions about transactional connections throughout the Americas.β
Studentsβ research focused on seven building materials: brick, concrete, cinderblocks, adobe (rammed earth), bamboo, Palma (dried palm leaves) and wood.
